Cut me into pieces but I will never defame Dr M, says former senior cop

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 — Former deputy director of the Special Branch (SB) Datuk Abdul Hamid Bador denied tonight that he is to file a report against Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad tomorrow over the former leader’s attacks against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in the latest rumours following the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) controversy.

A text message on the WhatsApp phone application sent out to several reporters earlier today claimed Abdul Hamid — who received a sudden transfer out of the police intelligence unit into the Prime Minister’s Department this week — would be holding a press conference tomorrow at the federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman.

According to the WhatsApp message, the purported conference was to explain Dr Mahathir’s involvement with London-based whistleblower website Sarawak Report in fabricating documents belonging to 1MDB in an attempt to oust Najib.

“Even if I am cut in 12 pieces, I will never defame the servant of Allah who has contributed so much to the country,” Abdul Hamid told Malay Mail Online when contacted for confirmation on the rumoured press conference.

Abdul Hamid is currently on leave after formally leaving the SB yesterday.

He has said he will return to work assuming new duties as the deputy director of a new Security and Transnational division in the Prime Minister’s Department on September 2.
